ALVA HISTORY

1910


 Foundation: „ Verband der Landwirtschaftlichen Versuchsstationen Österreichs“ (Association of Agricultural Research Institutes in Austria). This association is to be regarded the ALVA predecessor, uniting 18 institutions from the crownlands of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
   
1913 Publication of the first “Methodenbuch für landwirtschaftliche Versuchsanstalten" (Book of Methods for Agricultural Research Institutes) worldwide.
   
1918 Association is limited to Austria.
   
1929

 

 The remaining Austrian institutions enter the “Verband Deutscher Landwirtschaftlicher Versuchsanstalten" (Association of German Agricultural Research Institutes).
   
1946 First conference of Austrian research institutes at the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture in Linz. Foundation of ALVA
   
1955 The Alliance decides to found a registered association.
   
1956


 ALVA applying for the foundation of a registered association to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Nevertheless, and due to the difficult legal situation of institutes run by Federal and Provincial Governments as well as by private enterprises, the Austrian institutes remain only loosely connected.
   
1979

 J. Schneyder and the ALVA publish the “Methodenbuch für Weinanalysen in Österreich" (Austrian Book of Methods of Oenological Analyses), which is binding for official oenological laboratories.
   
2004

The “Arbeitsgemeinschaft landwirtschaftlicher Versuchsanstalten in Österreich" (Alliance of Agricultural Research Institutions in Austria – ALVA) is transformed into a registered association and renamed “Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Lebensmittel-, Veterinär- und Agrarwesen  (Alliance for Life Sciences, Food, Veterinary Expertise and Agriculture), thus keeping the ALVA acronym.
